What's going on?
In Minsk, police detained a man suspected of distributing counterfeit dollars. The reason for the investigation was the appeals of several banks about the detection of counterfeit bills in currency exchange transactions, reports the police department of Minsk city executive committee.
Operatives detained two men - a 43-year-old Minsk resident and a 22-year-old foreign student - while trying to exchange counterfeit hundred-dollar bills. According to them, they received the money from an unknown buyer, to whom they sold their cell phones through an online platform.
In the course of further investigation, a 35-year-old previously convicted resident of Minsk was identified and detained. According to the police, he bought counterfeit currency in a neighboring country, after which he found private ads for smartphones through the Internet. With the help of couriers, he handed over fake money to the sellers, taking the gadgets, which he then sold at a reduced price in the markets.
Police officers seized 15 counterfeit bills with a face value of $100 from the man. A criminal case has been opened against him.
