Rutte urged these countries to press Putin.

China, India and Brazil could be hit hard by sanctions against Russia if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not end the war in Ukraine following an ultimatum from U.S. leader Donald Trump, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, writes Reuters.

"I urge these three countries, especially if you now live in Beijing or New Delhi or are the president of Brazil, to pay attention. <...> Please call Vladimir Putin and tell him that he must take the peace talks seriously," Rutte said at a meeting with U.S. senators.

Trump announced he was giving Russia 50 days to reach a peace deal on Ukraine on July 14. He said the U.S. would impose tariffs of 100 percent against Russia and its trading partners if the war does not end. "I use trade for many purposes. It's great for stopping wars," the White House chief added. He added that since he returned to the presidency in January this year, he has considered a deal with Russia almost reached four times, but each time there was no ceasefire. Trump emphasized that he was "disappointed" with Putin but was not "done with him yet."
