For bravery and professionalism in Operation Envoy.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has awarded representatives of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces who took part in the evacuation of the body of the dead Lithuanian volunteer Thomas Valentelis.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces Special Operations Forces Command said this on its page on Facebook, European Pravda reports.
The command reported that for their bravery and professionalism, the President of the Republic of Lithuania awarded representatives of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a state award - the Order of Merit to Lithuania. All participants of this operation will be separately awarded for their personal contribution to the mission.
"Operation "Envoy" - evacuation of the body of 20-year-old Lithuanian volunteer Tomas Valentelis from the Foreign Legion of the AFU. SDF operators have been carefully preparing for it for more than a week: reconnaissance of the area, training, planning the route of exfiltration and diversionary actions", - said in the command.
The body of the fallen Lithuanian volunteer managed to evacuate literally from under the nose of the enemy. SDF soldiers stealthily reached the place where Tomas Valentelis was killed, identified his body, prepared it for transportation and, despite heavy enemy fire, successfully evacuated it without losses.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Šakaliene announced earlier that Lithuanian volunteer Tomas Valentelis would be posthumously awarded one of the country's highest military honors.
Valentelis died in March 2025 while on a combat mission in Ukraine. The 20-year-old had served in the AFU's International Legion since August 2024.
