Zelensky: Trump Has The Power To Bring Putin To His Knees

US sanctions could cause a "social explosion" in Russia.

Only hard pressure can force the Kremlin to make concessions. And American President Donald Trump is capable of doing just that.

The Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky said so, according to the New York Post.

The president was interviewed for New York Post, in which he emphasized that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is not willing to compromise to end the war.

At the same time, he emphasized that Trump has the power to bring him to his knees by accelerating tough sanctions that could cause a "social explosion" in Russia.

"He needs to feel it," the Ukrainian leader said.

Zelensky said he was "very grateful" to Trump for supporting sanctions, referring to the president's announcement on Monday that he would impose 100 percent duties on countries that buy Russian oil if Moscow does not agree to a peace deal within 50 days.

But, he said, that deadline only means more death and destruction for nearly two more months.

"Fifty days for us is just scary every day," Zelensky said.
