Zelensky Offered Trump A "mega Deal"

Kiev and Washington will start supplying arms to each other.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that he is discussing with his US counterpart Donald Trump a "mega deal" under which Kiev and Washington will start supplying arms to each other. The Ukrainian leader said this in an interview with New York Post (NYP). According to Kiev's proposal, the United States will be able to purchase battle-tested drones from Ukraine, including one capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 1,300 kilometers, and in exchange will provide an opportunity to buy American weapons.

"The American people need this technology, and you need to have it in your arsenal," the Ukrainian leader said of the drones. He emphasized that Kiev is ready to share with the United States all the experience it has gained from three years of war with Russia and called the potential deal a "win-win" for both sides. Also, according to Zelensky, Kiev is holding similar talks with Denmark, Norway and Germany. Prior to that, Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg visited one of the drone production facilities during his visit to Kiev. "I saw with my own eyes how Ukrainian-made drones are created and developed. Incredible innovations," Kellogg wrote on social media X. He also noted that Ukraine is leading in this field of unmanned aviation. "Our defense industrial base needs to pay attention to this and adapt," the special envoy of the US president concluded.

As the NYP notes, experts and officials have long warned that US drone aviation technology lags behind Russian and Chinese technology, and that US soldiers are ill-prepared to use drones or defend against such devices. Recently, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanded that "bureaucratic hurdles be removed" for U.S. drone production. The agreement with Ukraine could significantly strengthen U.S. military capabilities, the NYP emphasizes.

Trump held a phone conversation with Zelensky on July 4. During it, the White House chief promised to provide Kiev with "as many weapons as he can." After that, Trump announced arms deliveries to Ukraine, which will be paid for by NATO countries. In particular, according to him, several countries that have Patriot air defense systems will hand them over to Ukraine, and the USA will produce new ones for them in return.
