A Column Of Thick Smoke Rose Near Zaporizhzhya NPP

In the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhya region recorded a column of smoke near the nuclear power plant. At the same time, power supply disappeared in the region.

In the afternoon of July 19, a large column of smoke appeared over the occupied Energodar, where the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is located.

Social media reports that the smoke was visible for dozens of kilometers. At the same time it became known about allegedly complete de-energization of the entire Zaporizhzhya region.

"There was a power outage to consumers in Energodar, Melitopol, Vasilievsky, Kamensko-Dneprovsky, Veselovsky district of Zaporizhzhya region. The reasons for the outage are being specified," wrote the chairman of the OP RF commission Vladimir Rogov.

As of 14:00, a significant reduction in smoke was recorded. What exactly was burning is still unknown.

RBC-Ukraine's editorial staff asked the Energy Ministry and Energoatom for comments.

The press services noted that the Ukrainian side is finding out information about a possible incident at the occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

Russian media say that a forest fire started in Energodar as a result of the shelling, "the entrance to the city has become dangerous".

It was reported earlier that shell bursts were also allegedly recorded at a distance of several hundred meters from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
