It reflects inner freedom.
The International Union of Belarusian Writers has released an anthology of classic Belarusian prison poetry "Poems to Go Free," compiled by literary critic Tihan Chernyakevich, reports "Euroradio".
The book has collected poetic works written under conditions of imprisonment, hard labor, camp, exile, waiting for rehabilitation and revision of criminal cases.
The texts span more than 100 years: from the philomantic 1820s, when Adam Mickiewicz, Jan Čačot, Tomáš Zan were imprisoned in Vilnius, to the gulag lyrics of convicts after the end of World War II.
The anthology contains texts by 35 authors written under conditions of imprisonment. These are poems by Kastus Kalinowski, Yakub Kolas, Ales Harun, Vladimir Dubovka, Yazep Pushcha, Anna Novik and Larisa Geniusz, Maksim Tank and others.
The poems in the book reflect the emotional state of the politically imprisoned poets, their dreams and expectations, life principles. But above all - the inner freedom, which was often lacking in writers who were at large.
The book can be purchased in the online store Kamunikat.shop.
