Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has advised Ukraine "not to accept" the occupation of its territories by Russia. He said this at a media forum in the city of Shusha, answering a question from Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon, Radio Liberty reported.
Aliyev drew parallels between the situation of Azerbaijan, part of whose territory - Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas - has not been controlled by Baku for about 30 years, and Ukraine. Azerbaijan eventually gained control by armed force in 2023 over Karabakh, which almost all of its Armenian population left.
"Over the years of the negotiation process, and I have been involved in it since the end of 2003, over 17 years, there have been very many proposals, very many meetings. There were a lot of messages about coming to terms with the realities," the Azerbaijani president said. "And then we decided that we will create new realities and you will put up with them. That's what happened," Aliyev noted.
