The personnel reshuffle came amid improving relations between Kiev and Washington.
One of the main goals of the change of the Ukrainian government was President Zelenskyy's desire to form a team capable of working effectively with the new US administration. It was against the background of the intensification of diplomatic relations between Kiev and Washington that the personnel reshuffle took place. About it writes Bloomberg.
In particular, Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, who previously headed the Ministry of Economy, successfully negotiated with the United States on an agreement on Ukrainian natural resources this spring. After long and complicated negotiations, the parties signed a document that can be considered a diplomatic success for Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg sources, Zelensky had been considering replacing Prime Minister Denis Shmygal since last year. Sviridenko's success in negotiations with the U.S. side, as well as her effective work as economy minister, added particular weight to the decision.
The publication emphasized that Sviridenko was the only candidate for prime minister that Zelensky considered, as her successes are not limited to diplomacy alone. She also demonstrated strong results in attracting foreign investment and stimulating the country's economic development.
Bloomberg also drew attention to the fact that the large-scale personnel changes in the government took place amid a noticeable warming in relations between the Office of the President of Ukraine and the White House. The publication said that due to uncertainty over the length of time associated with the Donald Trump administration, the Ukrainian government "quickly took steps to adjust to more favorable circumstances."
Besides Sviridenko, other negotiators with the United States were also promoted. For example, Taras Kachka, who was previously deputy economy minister, became deputy prime minister for European integration. Due to her role in preparing the resource agreement with the Americans, Ukrainian Justice Minister Olga Stefanyshyna has also been appointed Ukraine's ambassador to the United States.
"The American direction is very important, and we have at least three areas of cooperation - a resource fund, a trade agreement and an arms agreement," Sviridenko told reporters on Friday.
