By $2.3 billion.
Romania's Ministry of National Defense and Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have signed a framework agreement for the supply of short- and ultra-short-range Shorad-Vshorad anti-aircraft systems, the Romanian Defense Ministry said.
The contracts will also cover logistics, training and equipment for the air defense systems and will run for seven years. The Israeli company, with its SPYDER systems and Derby missiles in short- and medium-range versions, was recognized as the winner of the tender after European companies MBDA and Diehl were excluded.
The procurement value is 10.33 billion lei excluding VAT, which is approximately 2.038 billion euros excluding VAT. The framework agreement will be valid for seven years, with the first two Vshorad systems to be delivered within three years from the signing of the first contract. It could be signed this fall.
The Rafael Spyder SAM system is an anti-aircraft missile system manufactured by the Israeli company RAFAEL. It has a range of up to 20 kilometers and a kill altitude of 9,000 meters.
