A Japanese Company Has Banned Its Ships From Carrying LNG From Russia

The EU has since lifted sanctions on three of its tankers.

The European Union has lifted sanctions against three tankers of the Japanese company Mitsui O.S.K.. Lines. They previously carried Russian liquefied natural gas, Reuters reported.

The European Union has removed three tankers - North Moon, North Ocean and North Light - from the sanctions list, which previously carried cargo from the Yamal LNG plant and participated in ship-to-ship transshipment off the coast of Murmansk. The restrictions were part of the EU's 18th sanctions package.

The European Commission said on its website that the exemption was made possible after firm assurances were received that the vessels in question would no longer be involved in the transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas, in particular from the Yamal and Arctic LNG-2 projects for which they were originally ordered.

"This measure demonstrates the effectiveness of the EU's sanctions mechanism for offshore vessels and the possibility of their return to service if the relevant commitments are met
