Drones Attacked A Strategic Russian Oil Refinery

There were massive explosions.

On the morning of July 22, residents of Novokuibyshevsk in the Samara region reported powerful explosions. Ukraine successfully attacked a Russian strategic enterprise with drones.

Russian independent publication ASTRA reported this.

The governor of the region, Dmitry Azarov, acknowledged the attack in an official statement, but assured that there were no casualties. According to him, "several enemy drones were destroyed during an attempt to attack one of the industrial enterprises. There are no casualties or destruction." The official also noted that mobile networks were temporarily restricted to "suppress enemy UAVs".

It turned out that the governor lied about the lack of damage.

Sources say at least two drones reached their target, the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery. As a result of the direct hit, a fire broke out at the plant. Industrial areas were engulfed in flames.

The latest reports say the fire has already been extinguished. The extent of damage to the Russian enterprise is being specified.

The Novokuibyshevsk refinery is part of Rosneft and is of key importance for oil refining in the Volga region. It produces, among other things, fuel for jet engines. It produces high quality bitumen and RT fuel - the main type of aviation kerosene in demand in Russian military aviation.

The refinery is capable of processing over 8.8 million tons of oil per year. The raw materials include oil from the Orenburg region, Western Siberia and fields in the Samara region.

This attack was another blow to Russia's rear infrastructure, showing the vulnerability of even deep-lying industrial facilities.
