Pistorius Names Condition For Delivery Of Patriot To Ukraine

Germany may transfer two anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.

Germany may hand over two Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine, but only on condition that the United States quickly reimburses them, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has said.

"We can hand over two of our [Patriot] systems, but only if there are credible guarantees that they will be replaced within, say, six to eight months," he said during a speech in the Bavarian town of Erding (quoted by NTV).

He said the main reason for such a condition is the need to preserve the Bundeswehr's combat readiness and training capabilities. If Germany does not have systems for training within one or two years, the country will lose its ability to train specialists, the minister explained.

Pistorius noted that Ukraine needs a total of five Patriot sets.
