Czech Republic To Help Strengthen Defense Of Ukrainian Skies Against Drones

This was stated by the Czech Prime Minister.

The Czech Republic will support Ukraine, particularly in the issue of strengthening its capabilities to fight against drones.

As "Ukrinform" informs, this was stated by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala at a joint press conference in Berlin on July 22 with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

"We agree with the chancellor that we must continue to support Ukraine, to ensure the transfer of sufficient quantities of weapons to Ukraine so that it can continue to resist," Fiala said and thanked Germany for its great involvement in the Czech ammunition initiative.

"We also want to work together with Germany on strengthening Ukraine's air defense, namely countering drones that the Russians use to terrorize civilians," the politician added.

He noted plans for cooperation on strengthening energy security and stressed that the Czech Republic has rid itself of dependence on Russian energy resources.

Fiala commented on cooperation in the "Visegrad Four" (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary), admitting that it is not simple, primarily because of different approaches to the main issue of today - security. The politician drew attention to the fact that meetings at the level of heads of government have not taken place recently, and for this reason he called it "reasonable".

"Because we share a view on some key international political security issues ... The way we approach the issue of support for Ukraine, pressure on Russia, how we interpret the Russian aggression against Ukraine," Fiala said and explained that the position of Slovakia and Hungary differs from that of the Czech Republic and Poland.

He believes that there is no more important topic now than security. And if there are disagreements in this area, this is actually an obstacle to normal cooperation.

At the same time, Fiala noted, the Czech Republic is ready to cooperate on specific issues pragmatically in other formats.

"What is important to me is the possibility of creating coalitions on specific topics that have a chance to succeed," the Czech politician said.

He noted that if cooperation with countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark works well on the issue of supporting Ukraine, Prague does it.
