The First Moldova-EU Summit Started In Chisinau

Maia Sandu called the summit a "historic step" for Moldova and the EU.

The first Moldova-EU summit with the participation of the country's leadership and the EU leadership started in Chisinau on July 4. This is reported by Newsmaker.

It is noted that the EU leadership arrived in the Moldovan capital this evening. In particular, they are the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the president of the European Council Antonio Costa. They were welcomed by Moldovan President Maia Sandu.

She called the summit a "historic step" for Moldova and the EU.

"Last year the people of Moldova voted to cement their future in Europe. We are beside you on this path. Because Moldova's success is Europe's success," Ursula von der Leyen said on the occasion of the summit's opening.

It is known that this is the first event of this format for Moldova. It is planned to discuss Moldova's cooperation with the EU against the background of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, further steps for Moldova's European integration, security issues and Moldova's economic growth plan, for the implementation of which the EU allocates 1.9 billion euros.
