Bad News For BelGi.

Chinese electric car competition will intensify.

By 2030, only 15 of China's 129 electric car brands will remain. Stiff competition, which has created price wars and overproduction in China, is forcing some companies to leave the market. Against this background, a Belarusian company with Chinese roots has launched its model, writes "Belarusians and the market".

The Chinese car market is the largest in the world. According to U.S. consulting firm AlixPartners, most existing companies that currently sell electric cars and plug-in hybrids in China will soon be financially unviable. The report quotes Reuters.

Market consolidation in China will be slower

By the end of the decade, the 15 strongest Chinese brands will account for about 75% of China's electric car and plug-in hybrid market. Each brand will have average annual sales of 1.02 million vehicles.

"However, consolidation in China is likely to be slower than in other markets," said Steven Dyer, head of AlixPartners' automotive practice in Asia. "Local governments may support non-profit brands because of their importance to regional economies, employment and supply chains."

"China is one of the most competitive NEV (new energy vehicle) markets in the world, with intense price wars, rapid innovation and new entrants constantly raising the bar," Dyer added. - This environment has led to extraordinary advances in technology and cost efficiency, but it has also left many companies struggling to achieve sustainable profitability."

No Profitability

With the exception of BYD and Li Auto, no other publicly traded Chinese electric vehicle maker achieved profitability last year.

Chinese regulators have urged automakers to stop the price war. But Dyer said it was likely to continue, but because of "hidden" factors such as insurance subsidies and interest-free financing, rather than direct price cuts.

Capacity utilization at Chinese auto plants fell to an average of 50 percent last year, the lowest level in a decade, putting pressure on profits.

Belarus will enter the competition

BELJI launched its new Geely EX5 model this year; it was first unveiled in May. Now two configurations are on sale at a price from Br73.9 thousand to Br79.9 thousand.

Director of the company Gennady Svidersky explained that the EX5 model is an electric crossover, which have not been produced in Belarus before. "We imported finished cars from China. Last year we presented the E8 - a premium sedan. And EX5 is the first model, which was already assembled at the plant, that is, it has a Belarusian VIN-code."

According to Sviderski, the company has programs to put this model on a large-scale assembly. As a result, it can be said that the plant "BELJI" starts production of electric cars.

The company wants to sell the car not only on the Belarusian market, but also to supply it to Russia.
