Belarus has decided to breed a special red breed of cows, which the Belarusian scientists have already called "golden. First Deputy Director General of the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS) on animal husbandry Ivan Sheiko told about the features of the new breed, writes "Telegraf".
Speaking on the air of the state TV channel STV, Sheiko said that in 2030 three main breeds of cows will be used in the Belarusian agriculture:
Belarusian black-breed,
Golstein,
Belarusian red.
Sheiko said that it was decided to breed the latter "at the urgent request" of Alexander Lukashenko.
What are the differences between the "golden" cows?
Sheiko evaluated the new breed of cows as "more competitive".
"It is stronger in genetic terms, in economic terms. The backbone is stronger," explained the NAS representative.
He said that the new breed is positioned as a dairy breed, although by some indicators its milk is inferior to Holstein (Holstein breed is one of the largest breeds of cattle with dairy productivity): if we compare the base fat content of milk, the Holstein breed has 3.6, while the red breed has 3.4.
Nevertheless, Sheiko called the milk of the red breed "more qualitative", in particular, by the content of beta-casein A2.
Sheiko said that the content of beta-casein A2 in Holstein cows is 30%, while in the new breed of cows - up to 70%, which is why the specialist called the new breed "golden".
He also said that the new breed will be bred at a new subsidiary in Grodno region. According to him, there are already more than 2 thousand cows there.
But the complete replacement of the Belarusian stock with the "golden" breed is out of the question, explained the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Karanik. He said that for a farm with high technology, the most highly productive breed is still Holsteins.
