Netanyahu Nominated Trump For The Nobel Peace Prize

The U.S. President appreciated the gesture.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has told US President Donald Trump that he has nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to Bloomberg, Netanyahu told Trump this during a dinner at the White House on Monday.

"He's making peace right now. In one country and one region after another. So I want to present to you, Mr. President, a letter that I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It nominates you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved, and you should receive it," Netanyahu said.

Trump responded by saying that such a statement specifically from Israel's prime minister was "very meaningful."

As Bloomberg notes, Netanyahu is not the first foreign leader to nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize. Last month, Pakistan said it would nominate Trump for the prize, emphasizing that foreign leaders understand that the best way to get what they want from the U.S. president is to shower him with praise.

Trump has long coveted the Nobel Peace Prize, and has repeatedly expressed irritation that his first-term predecessor Barack Obama won it in 2009.
