Popov, Former Deputy Head Of The Russian Defense Ministry, Has Been Added To The Charges

He has been in custody since the end of August 2024.

Former deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry Pavel Popov is facing new charges, "Kommersant" reports.

In addition to fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code), he is charged with official forgery (part 2 of article 292 of the Criminal Code), abuse of power (paragraphs "c" and "e" of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code) and illegal trafficking in weapons (part 1 of article 222 of the Criminal Code).

This follows from the SCR's report on the transfer to court of the cases of possible accomplices of the former deputy head of the Defense Ministry - director of Patriot Park Vyacheslav Akhmedov and deputy head of the Defense Ministry's main department for innovative development Major General Vladimir Shesterov.

According to the investigation, in 2022-2024, the former deputy defense minister, Messrs. Shesterov and Akhmedov entered false data into documents on construction work in the park. As a result, they stole from the Ministry of Defense more than 25 million rubles.

Vladimir Shesterov and Vyacheslav Akhmedov fully admitted guilt. The investigation of the case against Pavel Popov continues, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said. He has been under arrest since the end of August 2024.
