Zelensky Met With The Pope

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with Pope Lion XIV on July 9 at the pontiff's residence Castel Gandolfo near Rome.
The press service of the Holy See reported this, according to European Pravda.
Before his audience with the pope, Zelensky thanked Leo XIV for agreeing to receive him.
According to the Ukrainian president, the key topic of their meeting was the war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
-"Of course, we want this war to end, and of course, we are counting on the Vatican, on the fact that the Vatican and His Holiness will help us with a place for a high-level meeting to put an end to this war," Zelensky said.
He also expressed hope for the Vatican's assistance in the return of Ukrainian children who were kidnapped by Russia.

According to a statement from the Holy See's press office following the meeting between Zielenski and Leo XIV, they discussed the ongoing war and the need to find lasting and just paths to peace.
The Pontiff reiterated his readiness to receive representatives of Russia and Ukraine at the Vatican for talks.
